July 25th

Here are some pictures of the hotel that we are staying at.

Kristin and I went to a mall today to get some essential items like clothing, deodorant, etc. since our baggage is currently somewhere between Rochester, NY and Cali, Colombia. It's always a bit unnerving not to be able to speak the language where you are but everyone has been so nice. We tried to speak a little with the cab drivers and we all started to laugh as we were trying hopelessly to communicate. I think it is human nature to keep repeating the same phrases thinking that eventually the words will click with the person you are speaking with. People keep trying to do that with us. Kristin and I just look at each other and laugh. "Do you understand?", "No, I don't." When people ask if we speak Spanish we say "pequeño" or "little" and the impulse is to take your thumb and index finger and hold them about an inch apart to illustrate the amount. Unfortunately, this is an obscene gesture in Colombia, so is the "OK" sign, we've got to watch that.

I think the rest of the day is for relaxing.

We're going to pick up the baby tomorrow!

So, what does that two-fingered hand gesture mean, exactly (Eric wants to know) haha The hotel looks nice. I like the outdoor 'gym'.

Not sure what the gesture means? It's also considered impolite to yawn in public.
