1. pedestrians definitely do not have the right of way. don't attempt a quick run across the street. they will take you DOWN. no special pass for babies.
2. there are more men's clothing shops than women's. apparently the colombian man takes a lot of pride in his looks. i've never seen so many men with manicures in my life.
3. go shopping at your own risk. if you go into a store, prepare to be accosted by aggressive salespeople who will follow you around the store as you shop, holding your clothes, finding sizes and waiting outside your dressing room to hand you a change of clothes as you try things on. even at the mall's food court, people from the fast food restaurants would call out to us as we walked by, trying to get us to eat there. do they work on commission?
4. stop lights mean entertainment. when we were stopped at red lights, people would walk out to perform for tips. from a juggler standing on a fulcrum perched on top of 3 boxes to a guy a painted all silver dancing the robot. ok, that's probably not that different in new york, but for the rest of the country...
