August 4th

Little man's not too enthused about getting burped...
except when is happens, then it feels so good!

We went for a walk today and I tried to get a few snapshots. I took a couple of pics across from Magnolia's school when she was a girl. Someone in the park started yelling at me which made me a little nervous but I kept walking without acknowledging them and they left me alone. I think it was one of the people sitting on the bench in the picture.

That's one thing that we've found interesting / peculiar about our stay here. People are very vocal with strangers. Alexander has a rather large birthmark on his left thigh, it is grey in color and looks like a bruise. We've been told it will fade over time (anywhere from 10 years old to puberty) but we've been stopped several times and people have asked us about it with very serious looks on their faces, like we're not taking proper care of him. We've since learned that one of the Spanish words for "birthmark" is "lunar". Once we say "lunar" it clicks with people and they smile and everything is okay. I can tell we're going to been explaining this for a long while.

The area where we are staying has a lot of little boutique type shops. I've been surprised by the fact that the prices of things are the same as in the states. Perhaps if we went to neighborhoods that weren't so touristy it wouldn't be like this.  We actually went to a little mall close to the hotel to get more bottles the other day, they were $20 each. We didn't end up getting any. We're making due with the ones we have. It's been fine, we just have to remember to keep taking them to the kitchen for sterilization.

We ended up walking up this very steep hill and stumbled upon a monument. There was no plaque but from the clothing on the statue it was pretty clear that this was a Spanish conquistador. You'll notice the spray painted text on the wall, "MONUMENTO AL GENOCIDIO".

Here's a couple of shots from up by the monument. The mountains are beautiful.

The rest of the day was spent at the hotel. Xander is getting really tough to get down for his naps. He fights it like crazy and prone to full on meltdowns. He thankfully went to bed tonight rather easily.

Magnolia said we might possibly go to court on Friday! If that's the case we may end up going to Bogotá Saturday or Sunday which means we may end up going home by the end of next week! She said there aren't any promises but we're keeping our fingers, toes, arms, legs and eyes crossed!

We love this country but it's time to go home. It's hard dealing with being in a different culture, not knowing the language, being away from the comfort of home and trying to get used to being new parents all at the same time. Like I've said, it has been a great experience staying at the hotel where we are, it has definitely made everything much easier to deal with.

I am so excited...thought I had lost the blog forever...shows you how much I know...been trying since July 30th and haven't had any luck, then finally, don't know what I did different, but there you were. So happy to see my little great nephew again..love all the pictures and info, and what a great job you and Kristen are doing...can only imagine how difficult it is to be away from home, but looking into those big beautiful eyes of Alexander's, what an amazing feeling it must be. Will pray that the rest of the process will be a speedy one so you can get home and really enjoy that guy in the comfort of your own home. Love you all, Uncle Norm and Aunt Chris

Just finished talking to your mom for about an hour. I was telling her that I checked your blog earlier and had not seen anything posted today and then Grandpa Dave spoke up and said that there was new posts. We are all pulling for you and Kristen. Will be praying that you do get to go home by the end of next week. We are enjoying reading all about your journey. Love You Guys.....Give that little cutie a big kiss on both cheeks from his Aunt Pam

Hello! I too will be praying that you hear that wonderful word "Sentencia" this week. I vividly remember that call with that news with each child. Yes, the indefinate waiting is very hard and would be easier I think if you just knew the date you could travel home. Once you receive Sentencia, you will be on a wild ride - prepare to buckle yourselves in . . . lots of paper and signature gathering, frantic and sad "goodbye-for-now's" and last minute preparations for travel and more! The time between Sentencia and traveling home will move faster. There are some great things to do and see in Bogota too during your short stay there. So praying, hoping that you will be able to announce Sentencia news soon!!!
